Booking the knowledge test in Washington
First, log in to or create a License Express account on the DOL website. There you pre-apply and get your 12-digit Washington Driver License (WDL) number. If you enroll in a driver training course, give this number to the school.
If you think you already have a WDL number but do not remember it, call DOL at 360-902-3900.
Next, find a testing location. DOL's list of driver training schools and testing locations can be filtered by service type (Driver Testing), by city, and by language support.
Contact the location to schedule your knowledge test. Before you book, ask how much the test costs there and whether it is offered in the language you need.
If you want a photo on your learner permit, make an appointment at a driver licensing office to finish your permit application. See the page on documents to bring.
